We're offering two separate 3-day weekends so that we may keep groups small and still accomodate everyone who wants to attend!
Festival 1: April 5-7 (driving to the location on Friday, April 4 and returning Monday night, April 7)
Island overnight 1: Tuesday April 8-9 (transportation back to US available Wed. night)
Islands overnight 2: Thurs. April 10-11 (transportation from the US available late Wed. night)
Festival 2: April 12-14 (driving to the location Friday, April 11 and retunring Monday night, April 14)
In between these two events, we'll be making 2 overnight trips to the islands for those who want a little more adventure! Those attending the first weekend may want to stay for the Tuesday - Wed. island trip. Transportation to San Diego will be available Wed. night. Those attending the second weekend may want to arrive early for the Thurs - Fri island trip! On both island trips, those who wish to purse BCU 3* or 4* assessments will have the opportunity if properly qualified. Ask for details!
we've included breakfast and lunch during the 3 day festival in the cost of registration this year. Based on feedback from last year, dinner will be more streamlined at the restaurant with a taco bar as an option, but the entire menu available as well.
Another bunk house has been added right on the cliff with amazing views!. This house includes 2 bathrooms. An outdoor shower (cold water rinse and some solar showers) will be available for all festival participants. The camping area will be removed from the "socialization" area so that the late-night campfire crowd as well as the early morning coffee crowd won't disturb the sleeping crowd!
Yeah, that's right! This will be a super fun, but informal event on Friday afternoon at the start of each weekend. Participation is optional and spectator voting will determine awards such as "Most graceful move", "Best timed move", "Biggest move", "Most technical move", "Best move caught on camera" and such. There will be sea kayak and whitewater divisions, men's and women's divisions, plus overall awards! Prizes are likely to be limited to tequila shots and glory this year, but we expect this to become something BIG and YOU can be a part of the beginning! The location of the competition will be the playspots right in front of camp with perfect views for spectators to recline in comfort with a cold cervesa in one hand and their camera in the other!
2013 was a tremendous success! Thanks to all the participants and coaches who made it a truly memorable event! We're looking forward to 2014 and beyond!
Our event is held along a magical stretch of coastline in northern Baja where a rocky peninsula juts into the Pacific. Here, the ocean swell interacts with the rocky, craggy coastline to produce a multitude of play spots for the adventurous kayaker! Two small islands a few miles offshore provide a spectacular destination for intrepid explorers and the wildlife that the cold, clear waters nurture is outstanding.
One of my favorite things about kayaking is experiencing new places and meeting new people. There's nothing like traveling at 3 or 4 mph to get to know a place! Since we're in Mexico, we're going to enjoy the culture, food, history, and uniqueness of our location and travel off the typical tourist path, both on land and in our kayaks!
The location is about 3 hours south of San Diego and a few minutes south of Ensenada, Baja.
